Ambasciatore Usa: Italia è membro della Nato davvero importante

Napoli, 9 apr. (askanews) - Le sfide esterne all'Alleanza sono sempre più grandi, dall'Ucraina al Medio Oriente. Nel suo messaggio per i 75 anni della Nato l'ambasciatore degli Stati Uniti d'America Jack Markell ha detto che "l'Italia è stata un alleato fondamentale sin dalla fondazione". Ma quale può essere il contributo dell'Italia? Lo chiediamo a Markell stesso, a bordo della nave Mount Whitney, ammiraglia della Sesta Flotta, per i festeggiamenti dei 75 anni dell'Alleanza. "In primo luogo, la NATO è semplicemente un'alleanza straordinariamente forte e lo è da 75 anni. E l'Italia è un Paese membro davvero importante: gli Stati Uniti con l'Italia, con tutti membri della NATO, lavorano su una serie di questioni importanti", dice. "La leadership italiana in Kosovo, in Libano e altrove è stata molto, molto forte e siamo davvero grati per questa partnership". E il ruolo nella missione nel Mar Rosso? "L'Italia ha assunto anche quell'importante ruolo di leadership nel Mar Rosso. Quindi, ancora e ancora, l'Italia continua a farsi avanti nei confronti dei partner della NATO, e questo è esattamente ciò che l'Alleanza richiede".
