Durata: 2 ore LA TRAMA E' il film che 40 anni fa lanciò Richard Gere dopo un quinquennio di anticamera tra le belle speranze. Gere è Julian, "prostituto" di lusso per un'agenzia che provvede compagnia a mature riccone e porcelle. Un giorno uccidono una sua cliente. Julian avrebbe l'alibi. Al momento del delitto era colla sua amante, l'unica con cui non giaccia a pagamento. Ma la donna è sposata e non vuole comprometterla. Ad un dato punto rischia grosso. Ma è l'amante a trarlo d'impaccio, anche se le rivelazioni la mettono in un'inevitabile scandalo. PERCHE' VEDERLO Perché rimane il miglior film di Paul Schrader, un regista in buona attività anche oggi. Scritto, diretto e interpretato ottimamente, è il lavoro che meglio sviluppa la tematica di Schrader, una tematica (cattolica) dell'amore come redenzione.
