Neve ad agosto sul lago Tahoe in California. L'evento ha sorpreso residenti e turisti della località: non succedeva da vent'anni. Il fenomeno è stato causato da una perturbazione proveniente dall'Alaska che ha interrotto l'estate della costa occidentale americana. Solo pochi giorni prima la zona turistica era calda e soleggiata. La stagione sciistica locale non inizierà prima del 27 novembre, anche se alcuni resort hanno annunciato che potrebbero aprire temporaneamente dopo la nevicata. Il servizio meteorologico nazionale ha avvertito gli escursionisti e i campeggiatori di prepararsi ad affrontare le strade scivolose. Altre deboli nevicate sono previste sulla cresta della Sierra Nevada, soprattutto intorno al Tioga Pass e alle quote più alte dello Yosemite National Park, secondo il Servizio meteorologico nazionale. È dal 2003 che non si verificavano nevicate in agosto in queste zone.
