Cancro della prostata, terapia riduce la progressione della malattia o la morte del 46%

Barcellona, 16 set. (Adnkronos Salute) - I risultati dello studio di fase III Aranote mostrano che darolutamide più terapia di deprivazione androgenica (Adt) ha ridotto significativamente il rischio di progressione radiologica o di morte del 46% rispetto a placebo più Adt nei pazienti con tumore della prostata metastatico ormonosensibile. I risultati sono stati presentati in occasione del congresso della Società europea di oncologia medica (Esmo) a Barcellona. "Darolutamide ha dimostrato una forte efficacia e sicurezza, con o senza chemioterapia, in questi pazienti - spiega Sergio Bracarda, presidente Società italiana di uro-oncologia (Siuro) - Ci auguriamo che l'approvazione regolatoria sia rapida, in questo modo i clinici avranno una maggiore flessibilità per adattare il trattamento alle esigenze e caratteristiche di ogni paziente". "In Italia, nel 2023, sono stati stimati 41.100 nuovi casi di tumore della prostata con un incremento di 5.100 diagnosi in 3 anni - ricorda Orazio Caffo, direttore di Oncologia all'Ospedale Santa Chiara di Trento -. Dall'altro lato, sono importanti i progressi nella ricerca e nella prevenzione. In 12 anni (2007-2019), in Italia sono stati evitati 30.745 decessi. Si tratta di vite salvate, con pazienti guariti o che riescono a convivere a lungo, anche con la malattia metastatica". L'impatto del "tumore della prostata metastatico sulla quotidianità dei pazienti che sviluppano sintomi correlati alla malattia, però, può essere importante - avverte Caffo - Da qui il forte bisogno clinico di terapie innovative, come darolutamide, inibitore orale del recettore degli androgeni di nuova generazione. La riduzione del 46% del rischio di progressione radiologica o di morte è un dato molto importante, perché evidenzia l'efficace controllo della malattia metastatica. Darolutamide non solo è in grado di ritardare la progressione di malattia, ma ha anche un ottimo profilo di tollerabilità riducendo l'impatto del trattamento sulla vita dei pazienti colpiti dalla neoplasia in fase metastatica".
