Ciclismo, Lorenzo Bernard: "Pedalo per i bambini e i ragazzi mutilati dalle guerre in tutto il mondo"

Torino, 1 lug. - (Adnkronos) - A tagliare il traguardo del Tour de France c'è anche Lorenzo Bernard, atleta paralimpico e vittima civile di guerra. La sua pedalata ha un forte valore simbolico perché Lorenzo, classe '97, nato a Novalesa, nel 2013 a soli 15 anni, è rimasto vittima dell'esplosione di un ordigno bellico della Seconda Guerra Mondiale: una bomba a mano scambiata per un lumino da cimitero gli ha portato via la vista rendendolo una vittima civile di guerra. Il messaggio di Lorenzo - che incarna le possibilità di riscatto che possono dare lo sport e l'impegno civile che svolge attraverso l'Associazione Nazionale Vittime Civili di Guerra (ANVCG) - è diretto ai giovani che vivono negli attuali scenari di conflitto nel mondo: “Penso ai bambini e ai ragazzi di Gaza, dell'Ucraina e delle tante altre, troppe, guerre che affliggono i civili in tutto il mondo. Penso a chi vive una cecità, una mutilazione, o una disabilità in giovane età e in contesti dove l'assistenza, se non la sopravvivenza, è difficile. Pedalo per chi oggi non può farlo, per mostrare a tutti che il prezzo più alto della guerra lo pagano i civili: assistiamo ad un orrore senza senso”. Su parte del percorso della terza tappa del Grand Départ, la più lunga, da Piacenza a Torino, è sfrecciato anche il tandem di Bernard con la sua guida Davide Plebani, una coppia che ha da poco portato a casa il bronzo ai Mondiali di paraciclismo di Rio de Janeiro 2024, nell'inseguimento individuale sui 4000 metri, e che è nel pieno della preparazione atletica per le Paralimpiadi di fine agosto a Parigi. Lorenzo, oltre a consacrarsi allo sport ottenendo grandi risultati – è anche arrivato quinto nel canottaggio alle Paralimpiadi di Tokyo di 3 anni fa – partecipa attivamente alle attività dell'ANVCG, di cui è Consigliere della sede piemontese, presieduta da Nicolas Marzolino, l'amico che nel 2013, nel suo stesso incidente, ha perso la vista e la mano destra. Bernard e Plebani, con una divisa gialla e nera fornita dalla Regione Piemonte, sono partiti alle 13.30 da Carmagnola per arrivare nel capoluogo piemontese un'ora più tardi ed attendere poi la carovana del Tour all'Inalpi Arena.
