Neanche il tempo di cominciare e Jannik Sinner strappa già il primo break a Fritz. In casa dell'americano - a New York - sta andando in scena la finalissima dello Us Open, l'ultimo grande slam di questa stagione tennistica. L'azzurro è secondo tutti il favorito. Anche se nelle ultime settimane non ha passato un bel periodo, soprattutto dopo la notizia della positività al test antidoping di Indian Wells. Su di lui si è detto tanto e si è parlato forse troppo. Ma il numero uno al mondo, come ci ha insegnato quest'anno, è solito rispondere alle critiche con le prestazioni sul campo. A New York, nelle ultime ore, le temperature sono crollate a dismisura. Poi c'è quel problema al polso, scaturito da una brutta caduta durante la semifinale contro l'inglese Jack Draper. Ma Sinner è in stato di grazia. E l'occasione è fin troppo ghiotta per lasciarsela scappare. Se dovesse trionfare diventerebbe il primo italiano a vincere lo Us Open. Primo game: 40 a 30 per il numero uno al mondo. Serve l'americano, che con una botta violentissima scaraventa la palla all'angolino. Ma Jannik resiste e, in qualche modo, riesce a respingere al mittente il colpo.
