È un Carlos Alcaraz piuttosto nervoso quello che ha esordito nel torneo di Pechino contro Mpetshi Perricard. Lo spagnolo si è lamentato per tutto il match con la giudice di sedia che per ben due volte lo ha richiamato per "time violation". L'iberico ha infatti perso troppo tempo per servire. E, alla fine del primo tempo parziale, si è lasciato andare a un duro sfogo. Dopo il secondo richiamo, che ha comportato un "warning" - ovvero un'ammonizione -, Alcaraz ha perso la testa. Il cronometro alle spalle di Carlitos ha segnalato che i 25 secondi disponibili erano scaduti prima che arrivasse il servizio. Lo spagnolo si è imbestialito e ha scagliato, con un gesto di stizza, la pallina appena ricevuta. Il numero 3 al mondo ha poi spiegato come la perdita di tempo non fosse la sua. "Sono sempre molto veloce, non ricevo mai warnings. Me ne hai dati due in un set - ha tuonato Carlos Alcaraz al giudice di sedia -. È impossibile giocare a tennis così. Cos'è questo?". Insomma una presa di posizione molto forte da parte del vincitore di Roland Garros e Wimbledon che da una parte riaccende il dibattito sullo shot-clock, ovvero il tempo concesso ai tennisti per servire.
