Giovanni Ajmone-Cat, l'italiano che esplorò l'Antartide

Ieri, a celebrare il cinquantenario del rientro ad Anzio del motoveliero San Giuseppe Due, si è tenuta a Roma, al Circolo Sottufficiali della Marina Militare Italiana, la presentazione del volume fotografico 1973-74. La spedizione Antartica Italiana. Il Secondo Viaggio di Ajmone-Cat. Curato da Andrea Cafà, presidente del Museo MuMa, il libro raccoglie le foto della mostra itinerante Ancora Sottozero. Inaugurata ad Anzio a Villa Sarsina nel 2015, la mostra ha toccato in questi anni diverse città marinare ottenendo un buon successo di pubblico. Notevole l'impegno del MuMa, Museo della Marineria Anzio, nel divulgare le storie di mare e le imprese polari del comandante Ajmone-Cat. Partita il 1° luglio del 1973 da Torre del Greco, la seconda spedizione del comandante Giovanni Ajmone-Cat in Antartide venne patrocinata dalla Marina Militare Italiana e dalla Lega Navale - quattro i sottufficiali: Mario Camilli, Tito Mancini, Giovanni Federici, Giancarlo Fede e Dario Trentin, amico del comandante - a completamento del precedente viaggio esplorativo del 1969-1971. Ajmone-Cat, infatti, era stato il primo Italiano a piantare il tricolore su quella terra. Partito da Anzio, il San Giuseppe Due era un bastimento particolare costruito nei cantieri di Torre Del Greco dai mastri d'ascia Gerolamo e Giuseppe Palomba. Il curatore Andrea Cafà ha espresso grande soddisfazione per il risultato raggiunto dal Museo MuMa con la pubblicazione del volume fotografico: “Il libro sta destando parecchio interesse. Sono tante le richieste da parte di club nautici e amanti della vela. Provvederemo affinché tutte vengano soddisfatte. Ringrazio l'Associazione di imprese Cifa Italia, che si è impegnata a sostenere e a promuovere questo bellissimo volume, testimonianza preziosa di una grande avventura italiana. Grazie, infine, a Rita Ajmone-Cat e a Tito Mancini per aver gentilmente offerto la documentazione fotografica della spedizione”. Ed è ad Anzio, al Circolo della Vela, che il 6 luglio, alle 17.00, che il volume avrà il suo secondo incontro con il pubblico in occasione della Regata Trofeo Challenge Ajmone-Cat, giunta alla sua nona edizione, ideata dal MuMa con la preziosa collaborazione del Circolo della Vela. Sarà presente il presidente del Circolo della Vela di Roma e il già presidente Mario de Grenet.
