La sua vendetta la covava da tempo, poi a Parigi Noah Lyles si è preso la rivincita su un piatto freddo. Vincendo di centesimi su Kishane Thompson con il tempo di 9”79. Su Oblique Seville, giunto solo ottavo, si è preso una vittoria che covava da tempo, mentre Marcell Jacobs (9”85) è giunto quinto. “Oh sì, me lo ricorderò! Ci vediamo a Parigi", scrisse Lyles pubblicando una foto in cui Seville sbirciava la posizione dello statunitense a poche falcate dal traguardo. Il tutto era successo un paio di mesi fa, dopo che al Racer Grand Prix di Kingston il velocista caraibico stampò il miglior tempo stagionale sui 100 metri (9″82) beffando proprio il campione del mondo in carica (9″85). In finale, domenica, lo ha bruciato sullo scatto e in progressione, volando verso il trionfo iridato sancito dal fotofinish considerati i distacchi minimi. E la rimonta di Lyles su Thompson è stata un qualcosa di epico. Il primo si è preso una vittoria epica, festeggiando sui social una vittoria epica con un post commovente: "Soffro di asma, allergie, dislessia, deficit di attenzione, ansia e depressione. Ma ti dico che ciò che hai non definisce ciò che puoi diventare. Perché non tu!”. Ora la voglia è di bissare il successo nei 200 metri maschili e nella staffetta 4×100 metri maschile. Per adesso si gode un successo che è stato strepitoso, carico di adrenalina e di apprensione almeno fino a quando i tempi ufficiali non ne hanno sancito la vittoria: "Pensavo che Thompson ce l'avesse fatta alla fine — le sue parole — Sono andato da lui mentre aspettavamo e gli ho detto: penso che ce l'hai fatta, bravo… poi è saltato fuori il mio nome e ho pensato: oh mio Dio, è fantastico".
