Maggie Smith, morta l'attrice di Harry Potter e Downton Abbey: aveva 89 anni

È morta a 89 anni Maggie Smith, una delle più note attrici britanniche, vincitrice di due premi Oscar: a dare il triste annuncio la sua famiglia. Il pubblico la ricorda soprattutto per l'interpretazione di Minerva McGranitt nella saga di "Harry Potter" e per quella della contessa madre di Grantham nella serie tv "Downton Abbey". I premi Oscar da lei vinti risalgono al 1970, quando venne giudicata come miglior attrice per "La strana voglia di Jean"; e al 1979, quando ricevette la statuetta come migliore attrice non protagonista per "California Suite". "È con grande tristezza che annunciamo la sua morte, avvenuta in modo pacifico, in ospedale, questa mattina - hanno scritto in una nota i figli Toby Stephens e Chris Larkin -. Lascia due figli e cinque adorati nipoti, distrutti dalla perdita di una madre e una nonna straordinaria". Nella dichiarazione, i familiari hanno ringraziato lo staff del "Chelsea and Westminster Hospital per la cura e la gentilezza dimostrate in ogni momento dei suoi ultimi giorni. Chiediamo di rispettare la nostra privacy". L'attrice aveva ricevuto altre quattro nomination e otto premi Bafta. Era stata candidata all'Oscar per "Otello", "In viaggio con la zia", "Camera con vista" e "Gosford Park". Tra le sue performance si ricodano anche quelle in "Assassinio sul Nilo", "Hook - Capitan Uncino", "Sister Act - La sorellastra", "Il giardino segreto", "Marigold Hotel - Il miglior hotel esotico", "Quartet - Quartetto" e "The Lady in the Van - La signora del furgone".
