Mpox, un medico in RD Congo: servono i vaccini con urgenza

Roma, 4 set. (askanews) - Un medico che cura i pazienti affetti da mpox in un centro sanitario di Kavumu, nell'Est della Repubblica Democratica del Congo (RDC), duramente colpito dalla nuova variante di vaiolo delle scimmie, afferma che la mancanza di vaccini è preoccupante. Erick Mashimango, dottore al Kavumu Health Centre ha detto che dovrebbero essere forniti "con urgenza", facendo appello alla comunità internazionale. L'Unicef ha dichiarato pochi giorni fa di aver lanciato una gara d'appalto d'emergenza per i vaccini contro l'mpox per aiutare i Paesi più colpiti. L'agenzia Onu ha sottolineato che "i vaccini possono svolgere un ruolo fondamentale nel contenere l'epidemia, dichiarata un'emergenza di salute pubblica sia dall'Africa Cdc (Centres for Disease Control) che dall'Oms.
