"Non è solo panico, è dolore". La Cnn imbastisce uno studio ad hoc per commentare il dibattito tra il presidente americano Joe Biden e il suo sfidante Donald Trump alle prossime elezioni di novembre e il clima è funereo. Quasi tutti gli opinionisti presenti sono dichiaratamente pro-dem, o perlomeno contro Trump. Le facce sono lunghe, le parole misurate con cura per non scatenare un effetto slavina sulla Casa Bianca ma il significato è chiaro. Donald ha vinto, Joe ha perso. E male. Non sono solo gli esperti "convocati" dalla Cnn post-dibattito a sancire il tracollo di Biden, "doloroso" appunto perché oltre alla mancanza di veri temi forti con cui ribattere alle accuse di Trump il presidente ha evidenziato ancora una volta gli ormai abituali "vuoti", come anche al recentissimo G7 in Puglia. Frasi balbettate, apparentemente sconnesse, ironie non proprio immediate, una sinistra sensazione di "confusione" e scarsa lucidità, contrapposto al "basico" ma efficace contrappunto di Trump, che procede per immagini semplici, spesso brutali, ma stentoree e di presa immediata. La stessa vice di Biden, la contestatissima Kamala Harris, ha sì dovuto sostenere il capo parlando di un finale in crescendo, ammettendo però drammaticamente che "l'inizio è stato lento". Formula morbida, ma politicamente molto dura. Una "pessima performance", quella del presidente, che ha fatto usare a Van Jones, consigliere speciale dell'ex presidente Barack Obama (di cui Biden era il vice), addirittura la parola "penosa": "Sta facendo del suo meglio. Ma stasera doveva affrontare la prova di riconquistare la fiducia del Paese e della base (democratica, ndr). E non è riuscito a superarla", ha detto Jones. Un altro analista della Cnn, John King, ha aperto la discussione post-dibattito affermando che ora c'era "un panico profondo, ampio e molto aggressivo nel Partito Democratico" in seguito alla "scarsa" performance di Biden. Di conseguenza, alcuni nel partito stavano "parlando" della possibilità di chiedere a Biden di "farsi da parte", ha detto King.
