Jannik Sinner accede ai quarti di finale del torneo di Wimbledon. Il tennista azzurro ha superato in tre set lo statunitense Ben Shelton, numero 14 del ranking, con il punteggio di 6-2 6-4 7-6 (9) dopo aver annullato quattro set point. Se la vedrà con il vincente della sfida tra il bulgaro Grigor Dimitrov e il russo Daniil Medvedev. Per Sinner è l'ottavo quarto di finale in un grande slam, il quarto consecutivo a Wimbledon. "È stato un match difficile, soprattutto il terzo set, nel tie-break ho dovuto salvare dei set point: queste partite possono diventare lunghe, sono contento di aver vinto in tre set", ha commentato a caldo Sinner dopo la gara. Poi ha aggiunto: "Col mio team ci divertiamo, lavoriamo per questi momenti, per trovare il meglio che posso". Sul suo possibile avversario ai quarti, invece, non si è sbilanciato: "Medvedev o Dimitrov? Comunque sarà una bella partita, è un onore e un privilegio giocare un quarto di finale su questo campo". Sorprendenti i tre colpi di fila che gli hanno permesso di avere la meglio su Shelton. Uno di questi il campione altoatesino lo ha battuto nonostante la pallina fosse finita in basso, passandogli tra le gambe.
