Taiwan celebra il "National Day": uno sfregio davanti agli occhi della Cina

Taiwan ha celebrato il suo 'National Day' in un contesto di crescenti minacce da parte della Cina, che rivendica la repubblica insulare come proprio territorio. Il presidente Lai Ching-te ha dichiarato a Taipei durante la cerimonia che "la Repubblica Popolare Cinese non ha il diritto di rappresentare Taiwan”. La celebrazione segna l'istituzione della Repubblica di Cina, il nome ufficiale di Taiwan, che dopo aver rovesciato la dinastia Qing nel 1911 si rifugiò a Taiwan nel 1949, quando i comunisti di Mao Zedong presero il potere sulla terraferma vincendo la guerra civile. Taiwan è stata governata sotto legge marziale fino alla transizione alla piena democrazia negli anni '80 e '90.)
