Tumori, generazione X più colpita: differenze tra donne e uomini

Roma, 15 giu. (Adnkronos Salute) - La generazione X è la più colpita dal cancro. Fra i nati dal 1965 al 1980 si registra il maggior aumento pro capite nell'incidenza dei principali tumori rispetto a qualsiasi generazione precedente dal 1908 al 1964. Questa la conclusione a cui è giunto uno studio del National Cancer Institute negli Usa, analizzando i dati di 3,8 milioni di pazienti oncologici nel programma 'Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results'. Secondo i risultati, pubblicati su 'Jama Network', l'incidenza del cancro negli Stati Uniti potrebbe rimanere elevata per decenni. I tumori sono in aumento nelle fasce di età più giovani, ma i trend dell'incidenza per anno di nascita sono ancora poco chiari. A questo interrogativo hanno cercato di rispondere i ricercatori stimando l'andamento della diffusione del cancro nelle varie generazioni sulla base dei casi accertati nel database di 13 registri del programma Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results. I tumori invasivi diagnosticati all'età di 35-84 anni tra il 1992 e il 2018 sono stati 'catalogati' in base alla sede colpita e ad altri parametri come sesso ed etnia. I ricercatori hanno poi utilizzato diversi modelli di calcolo per confrontare l'incidenza dei vari tipi di cancro a 60 anni nella Generazione X (1965-1980) e nei Baby Boomer (1946-1964). La GenX è risultata la più colpita. In particolare, le donne hanno maggiori probabilità di sviluppare tumori della tiroide, rene, retto, utero, colon, pancreas, linfoma non Hodgkins e leucemia. Tra gli uomini aumenta il tasso di cancro alla tiroide, rene, retto, colon, prostata e leucemia. Non manca qualche buona notizia. L'incidenza dei tumori del polmone è diminuita sie nel sesso maschile che in quello femminile. In calo anche quella del cancro al collo dell'utero e, fra gli uomini, il linfoma non Hodgkins. Ma questa diminuzione, avvertono i ricercatori, potrebbe essere compensata dall'aumento di neoplasie in altri organi e l'incidenza del cancro potrebbe rimanere elevata per decenni.
