Al pronto soccorso sempre più over 80, il 27% di accessi totali nel 2023

Roma, 28 mag. (Adnkronos Salute) - Cambia, e invecchia notevolmente, la popolazione dei pazienti che vanno in pronto soccorso e, di conseguenza, le necessità di assistenza. Aumentano, infatti, i pazienti molto anziani, con più di 80 anni di età che se nel 2019 rappresentavano il 23% degli accessi totali, pari a circa 4.600.000 di pazienti registrati, nel 2023 si è arrivati al 27% degli accessi totali, pari a circa 4.860.000. E' quanto emerge dai dati dell'Osservatorio della Società italiana di medicina d'Emergenza -Urgenza (Simeu), che saranno presentati in occasione del congresso nazionale della società scientifica, in calendario dal 30 maggio al 1 giugno a Genova. "È un dato impressionante - secondo il responsabile dell'Osservatorio Simeu Andrea Fabbri - che deve essere spiegato: a fronte di una diminuzione del numero totale degli accessi di pronto soccorso, l'incremento relativo di pazienti così anziani provoca un aumento, in termini assoluti, di oltre 250.000 casi. Ma è ancora più importante comprendere che è la composizione della popolazione del pronto soccorso a mutare profondamente. Le esigenze cliniche e assistenziali di pazienti così anziani moltiplicano l'impegno necessario da parte di tutti gli operatori (medici, infermieri, operatori soci sanitari) per un fattore di incremento che è certamente superiore alla semplice differenza numerica".
