Bangladesh, la premier Sheikh Hasina si è dimessa ed è in India

Dacca, 5 ago. (askanews) - La prima ministra del Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina si è dimessa e ha lasciato il paese. E' arrivata nella città di Agartala, nel nordest dell'India, dopo essere fuggita da Dacca, teatro da giorni di violente proteste antigovernative. Nuova Delhi è pronta a offrire un passaggio sicuro a Hasina 76 anni, spiegano fonti di intelligence. Il comandante dell'esercito del Bangladesh, generale Waker-uz-Zaman, ha annunciato la formazione di un governo provvisorio in un messaggio ai cittadini. I disordini nel paese, che hanno già provocato almeno 300 morti, sono scoppiati dopo che i leader dei movimenti studenteschi hanno dato il via a una campagna di disobbedienza civile per chiedere le dimissioni della premier. La protesta studentesca, iniziata con una richiesta di abolizione delle quote per il pubblico impiego il mese scorso, si è trasformata in un movimento antigovernativo più ampio. Una folla di manifestanti ha preso d'assalto anche la residenza governativa a Dacca. Hasina è la figlia del primo presidente e padre fondatore del Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ed è considerata una delle donne più potenti al mondo; è in carica dal 2009, nel 2024 ha ottenuto il quinto mandato come premier, ma come nelle precedenti elezioni ci sono state pesanti critiche sull'andamento della consultazione.
