Chi è Yahya Sinwar, il nuovo capo politico di Hamas

Roma, 7 ago. (askanews) - Nelle imagini Yahya Sinwar, nominato nuovo leader politico di Hamas, dopo l'omicidio di Ismail Haniyeh a Teheran la scorsa settimana. Sinwar è ampiamente considerato come l'artefice dell'assalto del 7 ottobre che ha scatenato la guerra in corso a Gaza e dalla cui data non si è più fatto vedere. La scelta è quindi "un messaggio forte all'occupazione (di Israele)" e cioé "che Hamas continua il suo percorso di resistenza", ha dichiarato un funzionario sotto condizione di anonimato. Eletto nel febbraio 2017 a capo di Hamas nella Striscia di Gaza, Sinwar è tra i sostenitori della linea dura. Sessantun'anni, ne ha trascorsi 23 nelle carceri israeliane, prima di essere rilasciato nel 2011 nell'ambito di uno scambio di prigionieri. Sarà lui a continuare i negoziati per il cessate-il-fuoco e la liberazione degli ostaggi israeliani. Intanto il ministro degli Esteri israeliano Israel Katz ha chiesto di "eliminare rapidamente" Sinwar, mentre Hezbollah, allineato all'Iran, e gli Houthi dello Yemen si sono congratulati per la nomina. Moderato il commento degli Stati Uniti: il segretario di Stato Usa, Antony Blinken, ha affermato che l'ultima parola sul buon esito della trattativa sugli ostaggi spetta a Sinwar.
