"Come sta sua moglie?": il veterano della Normandia spiazza William, ecco la sua risposta

"Volevo chiederti come sta tua moglie, sta migliorando?": un veterano dello sbarco in Normandia, Geoffrey Weaving, lo ha chiesto al principe William durante la commemorazione per gli 80 anni del D-Day, a Portsmouth. Un evento a cui ovviamente la principessa del Galles, Kate Middleton, non ha partecipato. La moglie di William si è ritirata temporaneamente dalla scena pubblica per dedicarsi esclusivamente alle cure per il cancro che le è stato diagnosticato nei mesi scorsi. Era stata lei stessa ad annunciarlo a marzo. Rispondendo alla domanda del veterano, il futuro re d'Inghilterra ha detto che sì, Kate sta migliorando. Poi ha aggiunto: "Le sarebbe piaciuto essere qui oggi". All'evento hanno partecipato, insieme a William, re Carlo e la regina Camilla. Quest'ultima, in particolare, non è riuscita a trattenere la commozione mentre il veterano della Marina Eric Bateman ricordava la sua esperienza nella Seconda guerra mondiale. Parlando di Kate, poi, William - senza più fare riferimento alla malattia - ha aggiunto: "Stavo ricordando a tutti che sua nonna ha prestato servizio a Bletchley, quindi avrebbe avuto molto in comune con alcune delle altre donne qui", ha detto in riferimento alla nonna paterna della Middleton, Valerie Glassborow, che ha lavorato al centro di decifrazione dei codici della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
