Guterres “Polio a Gaza, serve pausa umanitaria per vaccinare i bambini”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Il segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite Antònio Guterres ha chiesto alle parti in guerra a Gaza di deporre le armi in modo che gli operatori umanitari possano vaccinare in sicurezza più di mezzo milione di bambini contro la poliomielite.“Faccio appello a tutte le parti perchè forniscano subito garanzie concrete, assicurando pause umanitarie”, ha affermato, parlando ai giornalisti nella sede delle Nazioni Unite a New York.Guterres ha descritto Gaza come in “caduta libera umanitaria” perchè “proprio quando sembra che la situazione non possa peggiorare per i palestinesi di Gaza, la sofferenza aumenta e il mondo guarda”.Il poliovirus è stato recentemente rilevato in campioni di acque reflue a Khan Younis e Deir Al-Balah.“La poliomielite non si preoccupa delle linee di confine e non aspetta”, ha aggiunto Guterres.A partire dalla fine del mese – fanno sapere le Nazioni Unite -, l'ONU è pronta a lanciare una campagna in due fasi per vaccinare più di 640 mila bambini a Gaza di età inferiore ai 10 anni. – Foto: Agenzia Fotogramma – (ITALPRESS).
