Rivali storici sin dai tempi nei kart, poi in pista nella prima parte del Mondiale 2022. Nonostante tutto, però, Charles Leclerc e Max Verstappen si rispettano ampiamente, andando contro a chi pensava scoppiassero liti tra loro due in stile Prost-Senna. La dimostrazione del rispetto l'ha data l'olandese, che alla fine del GP di Monza, parcheggiando l'auto fuori dal parco chiuso, ha lanciato un bel segnale al monegasco facendogli il segno del pollice alzato. Insomma, grande rispetto quello di Max, contro chi lo accusa di anti-sportività nonostante i suoi tre titoli mondiali. Parcheggiata la sua RB20 nel parco chiuso e sceso dalla vettura, l'olandese ha atteso che il monegasco attraversasse la pit-lane, poi si è complimentato. Il pilota di Maranello ha risposto annuendo. Una scena che inizialmente era sfuggita a tutti ma che le riprese della telecamera on-board posta sulla macchina dell'altro pilota Ferrari Carlos Sainz, parcheggiata qualche metro dietro la Red Bull di Verstappen hanno svelato, spegnendo così sul nascere sterili polemiche su presunti rapporti incrinati tra il leader del campionato e l'amico/rivale Charles Leclerc.
