India, dottoressa violentata e uccisa: cannoni ad acqua sui manifestanti

La polizia indiana ha sparato gas lacrimogeni e cannoni ad acqua per disperdere migliaia di manifestanti che martedì chiedevano a Calcutta, nell'est del Paese, le dimissioni della prima ministra del Bengala Occidentale, Mamta Banerjee, accusata di aver gestito male un'indagine sullo stupro e l'uccisione di una dottoressa specializzanda. L'omicidio della 31enne, avvenuto il 9 agosto scorso, mentre era in servizio presso il R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital di Calcutta, ha scatenato proteste in tutta l'India contro la violenza sulle donne. I manifestanti affermano che l'aggressione evidenzia la vulnerabilità degli operatori sanitari negli ospedali di tutto il Paese. Alcuni sostenitori del partito nazionalista indù Bharatiya Janata Party del primo ministro Narendra Modi hanno cercato di rompere il cordone della polizia e di marciare verso l'ufficio di Banerjee, chiedendone le dimissioni. La polizia ha bloccato le strade cercando di impedire che i manifestanti proseguissero il corteo fino all'edificio, respingendoli anche con l'utilizzo di manganelli e gas lacrimogeni. Quattro studenti sono stati arrestati prima della manifestazione, con l'accusa di essere gli organizzatori le proteste e atti di violenza.
