Lavinia Orefici: il futuro della monarchia è tutto nelle mani di Kate

Kate è la figlia che re Carlo non ha mai avuto. Arrivano dal Daily Mail le anticipazioni contenute nell'atteso libro di Robert Jobson, “Catherine, The Princess of Wales”, “Caterina, la Principessa del Galles”, in uscita nel Regno Unito il prossimo giovedì, il primo agosto. Jobson, biografo non ufficiale di casa Windsor, dopo Filippo, Carlo e William, questa volta ha puntato su Catherine come tutte le speranze appese al futuro della monarchia inglese. E' lei senza dubbio l'asso nella manica del re. Fondamentale a tal punto da aver inaugurato una nuova era di distensione nel rapporto tra il padre re e il figlio erede. Catherine infatti lavora nell'interesse della famiglia reale, pronta ad ascoltare entrambe le posizioni per intercedere da pacere. Un perfetto ambasciatore di casa. Il segreto del successo del matrimonio dei principi del Galles sta proprio nell'influenza positiva esercitata da Kate sul marito, una qualità che la avvicina alla regina madre, Elisabetta, roccia del regno di Giorgio VI. Con il tempo William ha infatti imparato a rispettare la devozione di Carlo nei confronti del suo mestiere, al contrario del suo passato di bambino che lamentava l'assenza del padre al suo fianco. Anche il rapporto con la madre Diana non fu migliore. Tanto era più accessibile di Carlo, tanto riversava sul figlio maggiore le frustrazioni del suo matrimonio. Anche se la protagonista del saggio è Kate, il libro è un racconto sulla famiglia reale a 360 gradi. In queste pagine sono venute a galla tutte le spigolature del carattere di William: viziato, a tratti prepotente, irascibile, che come tono di comando, quando si arrabbia, usa quello della voce grossa. Talmente conscio del suo ruolo in linea di successione che quando a gennaio del 2018 a Cardiff un impegno pubblico di Harry e Meghan coincise con un altro suo, che riscosse ben minor successo, la reazione stizzita di William fece sogghignare perfino lo staff dell'allora principe Carlo. È risaputo che nelle famiglie reali, per una questione logica, la linea di successione diretta al trono non viaggia mai sullo stesso aereo e questo principio ha causato una delle maggiori preoccupazioni in casa Windsor. Inquietava non poco la regina Elisabetta l'abitudine del principe William, pilota di elicotteri della Raf, di far volare insieme con lui ai comandi l'intera famiglia, Kate, George, Charlotte e Louis, tra le residenze di Amner Hall nel Norfolk e Kensington Palace a Londra, perché in caso di disastro aereo la linea di successione sarebbe andata al principe Harry e ai suoi figli i principi Archie e Lilibet... Per non parlare di Meghan regina! Re Carlo malato di cancro ha costretto, negli scorsi mesi, il suo erede William a firmare un documento in cui riconosceva il rischio per la sicurezza. I rapporti tra il sovrano e il secondogenito Harry sono deteriorati dopo i continui attacchi pubblici del duca di Sussex alla famiglia reale, e nonostante la narrazione ufficiale secondo cui il re sarebbe stato molto colpito dall'improvvisa visita di suo figlio a febbraio dopo l'annuncio del tumore, secondo i ben informati Carlo sarebbe stato piuttosto infastidito da questo fuori programma che lo ha costretto ad attendere Harry a Londra invece di raggiungere subito la tenuta di Sandringham per riposarsi dopo i trattamenti ricevuti. Stando ai precedenti di casa Windsor Carlo avrebbe ritenuto quella visita inopportuna anche per il fatto che la tempestività con cui il figlio lo ha raggiunto a Londra potrebbe aver dato adito alle più disparate ipotesi sulla sua salute, un'attenzione che al contrario lui ha avuto nel 2022 nel raggiungere sua madre a Balmoral mentre si trovava a Dumfries House, vicino a Glasgow, per non alzare il livello di preoccupazione nei sudditi sulle condizioni di Sua Maestà. Dal libro arrivano anche conferme sulle cause del decesso di Elisabetta II. Sarebbe morta di tumore per il mieloma che l'ha colpita. Inutile dire che per chi sperasse di sapere qualcosa di più sulla malattia della principessa Catherine, il libro in uscita non rivela nulla di più di quanto già si sappia, ma l'attenzione che è ricominciata intorno a tutte le sfumature di Kate lascia spazio a pensieri positivi e anche questo libro contribuisce a un tocco di normalità riconquistata.
