Durante un'audizione alla Camera dei Lord, Peter Millett, ambasciatore inglese a Tripoli, raccontò che in Libia circolava un numero di banconote pro-capite doppio rispetto al Regno Unito. Lord Stirrup, incuriosito dalla faccenda monetaria, chiese dove le custodivano. Millett rispose: «Sotto il materasso». Lord Stirrup non fece un plissé e cambiò argomento, con flemma british: «Ci sono sempre state tre province separate – Cirenaica, Tripolitania e Fezzan – con i regni islamici e con l'impero Ottomano. Pensa che esistano sufficienti idee unificanti, per mantenere insieme il Paese?». Millett fu lapidario: «I libici si riconoscono, prima di tutto e innanzitutto, con la loro famiglia, la loro tribù, la loro città e la loro regione. Al momento, l'interesse nazionale e l'unità nazionale non sono fattori unificanti». Era il 7 luglio del 2016. Era tutto chiaro. Linciato Muammar Gheddafi a Sirte il 20 ottobre del 2011, la banca libica ha continuato a funzionare nel caos, ecco perché la frattura tra Tripoli e Bengasi sulla sostituzione del governatore è un gong per l'Europa. Petrolio sopra gli 80 dollari al barile e Haftar minaccioso, la ricreazione è finita. La Libia è il diciassettesimo Stato più grande del mondo, è estesa come l'Alaska, la costa è lunga 1770 chilometri, i confini a terra sono pari a 4339 chilometri. È un immenso spazio aperto ai trafficanti di esseri umani, di armi, pieno di terroristi e agenti del caos. Il governo Meloni ha lavorato bene con i Paesi del Nord Africa: ha chiuso l'accordo energetico con l'Algeria, fermato le partenze degli scafisti dalla Tunisia e dalla Libia, ricostruito il rapporto con l'Egitto. Abbiamo più sicurezza energetica e gli sbarchi di immigrati irregolari sono in calo netto. Questa strategia funziona, ha protetto l'economia e la sicurezza degli italiani. L'errore più grande è quello di creare illusioni, armare barconi benedetti, nutrirsi di utopie. È già successo con le primavere arabe, sono diventate inverni. È una storia piena di impronte digitali, ci sono anche quelle di Hillary Clinton, allora Segretario di Stato, e del Presidente Barack Obama. Correva l'anno 2011, tredici anni dopo siamo sempre davanti alla politica estera fallimentare dei Democratici americani.
