Mo: Oms, 'infezioni poliomielite in bambini di Gaza solo questione di tempo'

Gaza, 31 lug. (Adnkronos) - Il direttore generale dell'Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità ha dichiarato che a Gaza è stata individuata la poliomielite e ha avvertito che i bambini dell'enclave devastata dalla guerra saranno presto contagiati dalla malattia se non verranno prese rapidamente misure preventive. Il giorno dopo che l'Oms aveva dichiarato che c'erano casi "molto probabili" di poliomielite tra la popolazione di Gaza, il direttore generale Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus ha espresso preoccupazione per il costo umano del conflitto tra Israele e Hamas. “La scoperta della poliomielite a Gaza è un altro promemoria delle terribili condizioni che la popolazione sta affrontando”, ha scritto Tedros su X. “La persistenza del conflitto ostacola gli sforzi per identificare e rispondere a minacce prevenibili come la poliomielite”. Tedros ha collegato il suo post a un articolo da lui scritto sul quotidiano francese Le Monde, in cui affermava che il poliovirus era stato rilevato in campioni di acque reflue a Gaza. Sebbene non siano stati ancora registrati casi di poliomielite, “se non si interviene immediatamente, è solo questione di tempo prima che la malattia raggiunga migliaia di bambini non protetti”, ha affermato.
