Anche il raccattapalle francese ha provato a "spingere" Richard Gasquet nel match contro Jannik Sinner al secondo turno del Roland Garros. Momenti di imbarazzo sul campo dello stadio Philippe Chartrier di Parigi, per il secondo turno tra il 29enne beniamino di casa e l'italiano numero 2 del ranking mondiale. Il match è stato vinto dall'altoatesino in tre set, con grandi lampi di classe e una gestione perfetta anche nei momenti più difficili. Una dimostrazione di forza che alla fine ha convinto anche il pubblico francese, solitamente mai troppo ben disposto nei confronti dei "cugini" (figurarsi se gli azzurri sfidano i transalpini, poi) ad applaudire calorosamente in occasione dei punti più spettacolari. La partita però è stata tirata, soprattutto nel primo set. Sul 5-4 per Sinner, per esempio, si è rischiato l'incidente diplomatico quando un raccattapalle è entrato in campo in anticipo, sbagliando i tempi. Tutti spiazzati: Sinner, Gasqquet, gli spettatori sugli spalti. E pure l'arbitro, costretto a far rigiocare il punto. Un imprevisto che avrebbe potuto deconcentrare i giocatori. E che soprattutto, solo per questione di decimi di secondo, non ha provocato al ragazzino una pallina in pieno volto, con le gravi conseguenze del caso. Sui social, ovviamente, i tifosi di Sinner si sono scatenati parlando di "complotto" e di tentativo di "furbata" francese, dal momento che il giovane raccattapalle è entrato in campo perché pensava che il dritto di Jannik fosse finito fuori. Il 22enne di San Candido così si è ritrovato a dover rigiocare un punto già portato a casa, per la gioia di Gasquet. Niente da fare, però, per il veterano: alla fine il set viene vinto da Sinner in 54' minuti di gioco. E l'italiano, proprio come nel match perso a Montecarlo in semifinale contro Tsitsipas a causa di un clamoroso errore dell'arbitro che non aveva visto fuori la palla del greco, insegna a tutti come compostezza e sangue freddo siano a volte l'arma migliore sotto rete. l momento, ripete il punto e lo vince con un passante di rovescio stupendo, lanciandosi verso la vittoria del primo set dopo 54' di gioco.
