Venezuela: Blinken, 'González migliore speranza per la democrazia'

Washington, 9 set. (Adnkronos) - Antony Blinken ha affermato su X che Edmundo González "rimane la migliore speranza per la democrazia" in Venezuela, dopo che l'ex candidato alla presidenza è andato in esilio in Spagna. Secondo il segretario di Stato americano, la partenza di González dal Venezuela "è il risultato diretto delle misure antidemocratiche che il presidente Nicolás Maduro ha scatenato contro il popolo venezuelano". Poco dopo essere atterrato con la moglie alla base militare di Torrejón de Ardoz, fuori Madrid, González ha dichiarato, in un messaggio audio, di essere "fiducioso che presto continueremo la lotta per ottenere la libertà e il recupero della democrazia in Venezuela". La decisione di González di andarsene è stata presa perché "la sua vita era in pericolo", aveva affermato in precedenza su X la leader dell'opposizione María Corina Machado, citando la "brutale ondata di repressione" in seguito alle elezioni venezuelane del 28 luglio .
