Gb, violenze: il premier Starmer invita a non allentare gli sforzi

Solihull, 8 ago. (askanews) - Il primo ministro britannico Keir Starmer ha chiesto di "non allentare gli sforzi" per combattere le violenze dell'estrema destra, dopo la tregua nel Regno Unito di ieri sera. "È importante non mollare", ha dichiarato il capo del governo di Londra durante una visita ad una moschea dove ha incontrato i leader della comunità a Solihull, nell'Inghilterra occidentale. Il primo ministro britannico Keir Starmer all'indomani della rivolte razziste, aveva promesso che avrebbe istituito un "esercito permanente" di agenti di polizia specializzati per affrontare le rivolte e i disordini. Gruppi anti-immigrazione e anti-musulmani erano entrati in azione dopo che online si sono diffuse voci sul fatto che il presunto aggressore sarebbe un islamista radicale appena arrivato in Gran Bretagna. Ma la polizia ha affermato che il sospettato è nato in Gran Bretagna e che l'incidente non è trattato come un attacco terroristico. Nel fine settimana sono scoppiate rivolte a Liverpool, Bristol, Tamworth, Middlesbrough e Belfast, nell'Irlanda del Nord, con uomini per lo più giovani che indossavano passamontagna e bandiere britanniche che hanno lanciato pietre e urlato "Stop the Boats", un riferimento ai migranti arrivati sulla costa meridionale negli ultimi anni. Per i disordini ci sono state decine di arresti. Le nuove proteste sono state fermate da contromanifestazioni pacifiche in molte città del Regno Unito.
