Scoperto un metodo sostenibile per la separazione delle terre rare

(Adnkronos) - Al centro di un'aspra contesa tra poteri pubblici e privati, le terre rare rappresentano una materia prima essenziale per le produzioni ad alto valore aggiunto. Prima di poter essere impiegate, però, devono essere sottoposte a una serie di trattamenti chimici che hanno un profondo impatto sull'ambiente. Gli esperti dell'Eth di Zurigo propongono una soluzione incentrata sui tetratiometallati, piccole molecole inorganiche, che renderebbero sostenibile il processo di separazione. Per ora, questo metodo è applicabile al solo europio, ma i risultati, comparsi su “Nature Communications”, sono promettenti.
